In 1998, Dr. Hasmukh Patel and Dr. Kabir Jivraj founded AgeCare Ltd. with a corporate mission of developing and managing innovative Supportive Housing and Long Term Care Communities in Alberta.

They had previously developed the “aging in place” model in England and introduced the concept to, what was then called The Palliser Health Region, in a successful response to a RFP.

Our Early Years

AgeCare developed Valleyview Assisted Living and Long Term Care Community in Medicine Hat and applied the same model to the Orchard Manor Community in Brooks a year later. Within the next 3 years, AgeCare had further developed Columbia Assisted Living, a 112 bed Community in Lethbridge, Alberta.

In April 2003, the Company completed their first acquisition by purchasing Canada Way Care Centre and Lodge, a 240 bed multi-level care community in Burnaby, BC.  Canada Way Care Centre and Lodge, having now been renovated, resulted in the launch of the newly renamed Harmony Court Care Centre and Harmony Court Estate, a community of 206 beds.

On September 1st, 2004, AgeCare concluded its second acquisition process in purchasing two prominent senior care communities in Calgary: The Beverly Centre Glenmore with 212 Long Term Care beds and The Beverly Centre Lake Midnapore with 270 Long Term Care beds, which also includes The Beverly Estate with 50 Private Assisted Living suites.

New Communities join the AgeCare Family

This level of high quality and superior seniors living has been repeated in the design and construction of Sunrise Gardens, which opened in August, 2009 in Brooks, Alberta. 

Sunrise Gardens is comprised of 84 Supportive Living units and the moment you enter this community, you can see this is a sister Community to our Beverly Centre Glenmore and Lake Midnapore sites, with its superior design and features.

Sagewood Seniors Community, which opened in Strathmore, Alberta in October 2010, features a 3 storey framework containing 102 seniors living suites, comprised of 60 Supportive Living units and 42 Affordable Living suites, called Sagewood Estate. Both communities are a remarkable success and have been warmly welcomed by the Strathmore community.

Our commitment to leadership is reflected in our pursuit of excellence through the design of our communities. We are proud of our Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for Sagewood, which means the building has been created to feature high efficiency boilers, fresh air ducts into the suites, reduced construction waste and water conservation measures, to name a few. 

Also in Strathmore is Sagecourt. This community, which has been created for young families and will follow an affordable rental structure, features 40 affordable family style apartments. Sagecourt opened in August, 2010 and has also been a resounding success.

Walden Heights Seniors Community, which opened in Calgary in the Spring of 2012, features 167 Supportive Living (4) and Supportive Living (4) Dementia units.

The Walden Heights Community will be a full campus of care once fully developed. We are pleased that it features the same superior design, programming and LEED certification as previous communities within the AgeCare portfolio.

Within Walden Heights Seniors Community, we will also develop Walden Heights Estate, which will feature independent living and an affordable housing component. This community will open in the Fall of 2013.
