Your New Home

Our History

The seeds for The Beverly Centre’s long history were planted in 1956 when Norman Martin and his older brother Edward opened a 15-bed nursing home across from Calgary’s Holy Cross Hospital to serve convalescing seniors.

Following the development of a 34-bed nursing home in the Bankview area of Calgary, a new era began in 1971 - the construction of the innovative 144-bed Beverly Nursing Home on the current Glenmore site.  This featured multiple interior garden courtyards, a bungalow style and two-bed rooms that far exceeded industry standards at that time.  In 1982, The Beverly expanded to include 38 additional beds to this site.

The biggest transformation would come in 1992 with a major renovation and expansion of The Beverly Nursing Home.  Following its completion it re-opened as The Beverly Centre in 1993, with the new facility featuring fully carpeted hallways, residential-style furnishings, more private rooms, smaller dining rooms and elegant gathering spaces that created an intimate, home-like environment for our residents.

On September 1st, 2004, AgeCare purchased The Beverly Centre Glenmore, The Beverly Centre Lake Midnapore and The Beverly Estate.   Today, AgeCare continues to expand and grow as a leader of seniors health and wellness in Canada.

The Beverly Centre now has the capacity of 212 beds and remains one of the most elegant and sought after settings for long term care living in Calgary.  AgeCare has a family of 8 communities across Canada and continues to provide superior care and services to Canadians.

Living with Friends, Creating a Community ~ My Neighbourhood

AgeCare Communities,  has a philosophy of "living in place" which is the key hallmark of our all communities. We have all heard of "aging in place" and the concept is a good one, provided we are focused on living a vibrant and enriching life as well, over just remaining in one place.

We have supported and created, for over a decade, the concept of neighbourhood living.   Within our communities, each floor and key resident room areas of our communities receive a name that resonates with our residents.  Generally historical names or key demographic landmarks to assist our residents in finding their way back to their suites and to make each area of the building is own "community or neighbourhood".  A warm and welcoming neighbourhood feeling creates a foundation for friendship and a sense of belonging to something special.

Further to this, some neighbourhood are created with specialized care models, such as memory care neighbourhoods.  We do our best to ensure that our residents are living and enjoying life, in the best possible setting, designed for their needs.
