Model of Care for Seniors with Demenita

Rosewood Neighbourhood

Harmony Court Care Centre, Burnaby, B.C.

On June 3, 2011 Fraser Health and AgeCare marked the grand opening of Rosewood Neighbourhood at Harmony Court Care Centre, the first model of care designed for medically stable, independently mobile seniors with dementia for Fraser Health.

AgeCare has renovated and created 25 private suites on the main floor of Harmony Court.  This specialized setting provides a safe and secure environment emphasizing the resident abilities rather than losses.  A secure courtyard has been created, the new Hearthstone Lounge with fireplace and quiet conversation space and the ever popular demonstration kitchen area for baking and other fun pursuits.

Rosewood neighbourhood provides families with a unique care solution for a loved on who is not longer able to live on their own, or can no longer supported in an Assisted Living setting.  This program is called "Alternative Care Model - Dementia".

Minister of Health, Michael de Jong states "This new model of care will allow the growing number of seniors with dementia to remain in their community, and close to friends."

Accreditation Awarded to AgeCare

Fall 2010

Accreditation Canada is an independent group responsible for the national review and accreditation of senior care facilities across Canada. Organizations and communities will only be awarded their Accreditation Seal if they have successfully implemented all the required organizational practices and have a clear commitment to safety.

Surveyors from Accreditation Canada reviewed all AgeCare communities in Alberta and British Columbia in the fall of 2010.  They reviewed documents, observed staff and care practices, interviewed key stakeholders and community partners.  From this process, results are then shared with AgeCare.

Rare Accreditation Citation given to AgeCare

We are proud to announce, Accreditation Canada recognized AgeCare for our industry-leading practices, a rare citation.  AgeCare and our staff have been recognized for their exemplary and innovative implementation of the new Alberta Health Services - Supportive Living Program at Sunrise Gardens, Brooks, Alberta.

Additionally, we were cited for our ability to work in partnership with our community and regional healthcare partners to provide the seamless delivery of care and services.

AgeCare continues to look for further opportunities and ways to promote excellence within our organization.

Cindy Ady, Member of the Alberta Legislature ,

The Honourable, Minister Jablonski, Alberta Seniors & Community Supports

Our newest community in Calgary is located in Walden, on the east side of McLeod Trail heading south. This location is ideal for the seniors as it is next to grocery shopping, a drug store, medical centre and all the amenities.

This community boasts 90 suites with well appointed amenities, dining rooms on each of the 4 floors.  Additionally, each floor will have its own balcony so residents can enjoy fresh air and the lovely views any time they like.

Walden is also a LEEDS project, Leadership In Energy and Environmental Design which means it offers construction practices that support environmental health, as well as resident health.

It is designed to encompass strategies on energy efficiency, water efficiency, CO2 emission reduction, improved environment quality and the stewardship of resources.

A building becomes special when the residents move in!  AgeCare is known for its programs that feature inter-generational participation and we welcome a true sense of community by involving neighbouring schools and organization to join us in our communities.  We are a true partner in the communities where our buildings are located and we embrace our place in that neighbourhood!

On September 23, 2010 Walden officially began its journey.
