Dr. Kabir Jivraj is the co-founder of AgeCare. His acute understanding of health care and the seniors market, combined with his extensive business acumen and experience, has
been instrumental in the organization's success.
Kabir served as the President of the Alberta Medical Association in 1996/1997 and
received the Associations Medal of Distinguished Service in May 2000. He was also honoured in 2005 as one of the 100 Alberta Physicians of the Century by the Alberta Medical Association and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
Kabir has also served in various capacities at other organizations including the Honorary Treasurer of the Canadian Medical Association, Chair of the Board for the United Way of Calgary and area.
Between 1999 and 2002, Kabir was the Senior Vice-President and Chief Medical Officer at the Alberta Health Services - Calgary Health Region. He was also the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine between 2000 and 2002. He has been a clinical professor at the University of Calgary, Faculty of Medicine since 2001 and has taught undergraduate and graduate students since 1988.
Dr. Hasmukh Patel
Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Hasmukh Patel is the co-founder of AgeCare and currently holds the position of Chief Executive Officer. His commitment to seniors and steadfast focus on providing the highest quality of care has been instrumental in AgeCare's success.
Hasmukh attained his medical degree in the United Kingdom before immigrating to Canada in 1987. He established his practice in family medicine in rural Alberta before moving to Medicine Hat in 1991 where he continued to practice family medicine. During this time, he was also a staff member at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital.
Recognizing the changes in demographics and the need for innovative seniors housing
and care, Hasmukh co-founded AgeCare in 1998. Since then, he has been actively
involved in the stewardship of this organization. He has been active in the Medicine Hat Rotary Club, and the Board of Governors for the Medicine Hat College. He is the President, of the Alberta Continuing Care Association.
Catharine Leung
Chief Financial Officer
Catharine has a strong background in accounting and finance within the health sector.
She spent 10 years working at EFW Radiology as the Chief Financial Officer and Director
of Finance, where she had been responsible for both the accounting and billing departments, managing financial reporting, performing financial modeling and analysis, participating in the development of annual business plans and overseeing the annual budgeting process.
Prior to joining EFW Radiology, Catharine held the position of Assurance Manager with KPMG Chartered Accountants LLP.
Catharine is a member of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta and the Certified General Accountants’ Association of Alberta.
Ali Shivji
Chief Operating Officer
Ali has a strong background in strategic development and operations in both the public
and private health sector. He has worked with the National Health Service in the UK as Assistant Director at the King’s Health Partners Integrated Cancer Centre (ICC), where he was specifically responsible for Research and Development, IT, and Funding.
Prior to joining ICC, Ali was consulting with McKinsey & Company, based in Montreal and London, primarily focusing on international health care system redesign. Ali has worked in hospitals and health authorities around the world, most notable in East Africa, the UK and Canada.
Ali has previously been chosen as one of Calgary’s youngest Top 40 under 40 in the city’s history. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from McGill University, a certificate in Value Based Health Care Delivery from Harvard Business School and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from INSEAD, where he was selected as MBA student of the year.
Robin E. Harron Director, Health Services
Robin Harron is responsible for health service excellence and major strategies related to providing the highest standards of safe and compassionate care and services to all AgeCare residents and clients. She is accountable for the research and implementation of Continuing Care Health Service Standards; Accommodation-Licensing Standards; Accreditation Canada Standards; clinical best practice programs; and total quality management for AgeCare.
Robin has been instrumental in AgeCare's commissioning projects for Supportive Living Level 4 and Level 4 Dementia communities in Alberta. She participated in the development and implementation of the Alternate Care Model-Dementia (ACM-D) pilot in Fraser Health.
Robin has been a Director, Administrator, and Director of Care within the Continuing Care sector for over 15 years. She is the Accreditation Canada lead for the organization. Her years of clinical experience range from acute care, family and sports medicine to a strong focus on seniors’ care. In 1988, Robin was the primary care nurse for the Canadian
Olympic Bob-Sled and Luge Teams.
Robin is a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the University of Calgary. Over the past many years, Robin has been actively involved on many provincial working groups and Zone quality service committees. She is currently an active member of the College & Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta, the Canadian Gerontology Nurses Association, and the Alberta Gerontology Nurses Association.
Iqbal Ali
Director, Human Resources
Iqbal is accountable for human resources and education services, as well as for leading AgeCare's journey towards being recognized as an Employer of Choice.
Iqbal brings twenty years of organizational and management experience in various disciplines, including ten years in the field of organizational and people development. His functional experiences include accounting, quality assurance, human resources and labour relations. Just prior to joining AgeCare, Iqbal served as a work-life success coach, performance consultant, and seminar leader. He is the author of three books, including "Performance Matters: Success at Work, Home, and Play."
Iqbal is a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP). He hold a Bachelor's degree in Finance & Economics from the University of Western Ontario, and a Master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Calgary. Iqbal has recently completed the Certificate in Organizational Values and Ethics from Carleton University. Since 2000, he
has been a Faculty Member at Columbia College within the Business Management Department.
Eva Tse
Director, Finance
Eva is accountable for the daily operation of finance and payroll functions at AgeCare. Her major responsibility is to establish and maintain effective, efficient and accurate accounting and payroll systems, as well as integrate the related procedures at all facilities. She is also responsible for continually evaluating all processes and procedures and implementing appropriate controls and improvements.
Eva is a Certified General Accountant (CGA). She has over 20 years of accounting,
finance and management experience in different industries, including public practice,
health care, airline telecommunication, construction and property management. Her
breadth of experience and knowledge provide her with great insights and value in
managing her functions and teams.
James (Jim) Held
Director, Hospitality Services and Environment
Jim is responsible for overseeing Hospitality Services relating to offering the highest quality service to all AgeCare Residents.
Jim holds a graduating degree as a Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA). He has been in the hospitality industry for over 30 years, with a focus on the hotel industry. In 2008, he
changed his focus to Senior Living in the capacity of Executive Director. During his tenure, he was honoured with the “Hero” award for receiving the highest amount of complimentary letters from Residents and Staff.
Over the course of his career, Jim has sat on the Board of Directors for Tourism Calgary, Calgary Destination Marketing Fund and Lion’s Club International. He has been recognized with the Lion’s Club International Presidents Award, which is only presented three times a year worldwide, for his work within the Calgary community. He is currently a member of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Margaret Wong
Director, Corporate Services
Margaret has worked with Hestia Group of Companies / AgeCare since 2003 focusing on
the responsibilities of company development, evaluation and implementation of many processes and initiatives, as well as managing Hestia’s investment portfolio.
Currently she is Director, Corporate Services with AgeCare. Her responsibilities were expanded to include formulating and implementing a procurement and contract
management framework as well as developing processes for managing policies and procedures to support an effective organization. She has a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Calgary.
