The Opportunity:

The Maintenance Manager has the responsibility of overseeing the operation of the physical plants of AgeCare and ensuring that this is done in accordance with Federal, Provincial and Local requirements.  This requires on-call coverage for buildings and scheduling of staff to meet this requirement.  The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overall coordination of general maintenance activities and grounds keeping.  It is the Maintenance Manager’s job to assist and be involved in maintaining a clean, safe, healthy environment so that residents of the facilities can live comfortable, enjoyable and active lives.  The Maintenance Manager promotes health and safety in the workplace.

Within the scope of this position, the Maintenance Manager takes on a key leadership role to continually provide and ensure an environment that promotes a culture of resident safety and exemplary service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for building safety that sustains an atmosphere of safety for resident and family centred care
  • Ensure proper preventative maintenance techniques and systems are followed and completed
  • Adheres to AgeCare’s Human Resources Practices and AgeCare’s annual budget
  • Ensure the community is promoted in a positive way
  • Work with community leadership teams to maintain accuracy and consistency amongst company values and initiatives.
  • Coach and Mentor the development of personnel to ensure best practices are consistently achieved and high-quality service is maintained.
  • Hire and train maintenance team members.
  • Support a culture of safety in the workplace for residents, visitors and employees
  • Deals with hands-on maintenance issues as required
  • Travel to other sites may be required

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Class 5 Certificate Power Engineer/ or equivalent from a recognized institution or experience.
  • Licensed in accordance with current applicable standards, codes, labor laws, etc.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a supervisory capacity, in maintenance / plant positions.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge in boilers, compressors, as well as various mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Knowledgeable in building codes and safety regulations.
  • Computer capable, experience in MS word & excel
  • Ability to learn new computer programs
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Possesses the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Possesses the ability to deal tactfully with staff, residents, visitors and the general public.
  • Knowledgeable of maintenance practices, procedures, safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Able to work harmoniously with other department personnel and supervise non-professional personnel.
  • Ability to problem solve effectively.
  • Possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing maintenance practices.
  • Able to plan and carry out programs in repair, new construction and equipment installation in a most efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Ensures safe work practices are conducted by all maintenance staff and contract services and ensures safe environment is provided for all staff, visitors and volunteers within the building.
  • Must understand and abide by WHMIS protocols.
  • Maintains a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality to all residents and staff to ensure individual rights are respected and protected.
