Occupational Therapy Aide Full-Time Temp Mount Royal - AgeCare Mount Royal , Calgary

The Opportunity:

This position assists in assessing, planning, implementation, and ongoing delivery of therapy programs, under direct and indirect supervision of Rehabilitation Professionals to encourage residents to function at their maximum potential of independence in an effort to prevent or delay deterioration as long as possible.

Key Responsibilities:

• Reviews daily report and communication binders.

  • Collects data and identifies problems.
  • Porters clients to and from treatment room as required.
  • Monitors resident ability to participate in therapy intervention.
  • Is aware and appropriately communicates change of medical status, likelihood of aggression etc., to

the Manager.

  • Regularly communicates with RN/LPN/Rehabilitation Professional any concerns.
  • Under direction of Rehabilitation Coordinator, performs position tasks such as, but not limited to,

carrying out ROM exercises as instructed, mobilizing clients, transferring and lifting residents using

appropriate aids, conducting gait training, conducting appropriate exercise classes and group

activities, assisting residents in walking program, preparing residents and equipment for rehabilitation

treatment.

  • Checks, cleans and appropriately stores equipment; prepares and delivers equipment as required;

maintains and cleans Unit hot pack machine monthly, checks and records hot pack temperatures

monthly.

  • Delivers, modifies and repairs wheelchairs, walkers and other mobility aids; applies/adjusts

equipment (walkers, seating, splints, adaptive equipment).

  • Completes ADL training programs with residents as directed.Qualifications:• Post-secondary education is an asset.
  • Must be fluent in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Completion of related diploma program from a recognized institution is an asset.
  • Demonstrates respect of client’s rights and responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates understanding and adherence to strict confidentiality and privacy of information

policies.

  • Is highly energetic and team player; promotes a positive work environment.
  • Demonstrates appropriate channels and methods of communication.
  • Has ability to deal with team members, clients, and families with respect, tact and sensitivity.
  • Has ability to take direction but act within assigned role per licensing and management defined

parameters.

  • Has ability to multi-task and remains flexible within a demanding environment.
  • Demonstrates a positive, caring and empathetic attitude.
  • Prior experience in continuing care/gerontology preferred.
