Dear Residents and Families,
We remain committed to providing updates to our residents, families, and staff at AgeCare. We are providing weekly updates to keep you all informed on what is happening in our community and organization-wide.
These updates are sent on Friday each week. We hope that you find them helpful. Thank you all for your continued support.
With the current global status, just about everyone is struggling to come up with creative ways to spend time with friends and family, but this can be especially challenging for those in continuing care. The following are some ideas that can help make your visits more meaningful and engaging.
Listen to an Audiobook
Audiobooks make reading accessible to everyone, including seniors with low vision or limited physical ability. Audiobooks are readily available at local libraries (in both digital and CD format) or you can subscribe to audiobooks such as Audible.
Listening to a book is a fun way to spend time and doesn’t require much energy. And an imaginative story, historical tale, or exciting mystery can transport them to another world.
Reminisce About Happy Memories
Reminiscing about happy memories encourages the use of long-term memory, which may still be remembered with clarity. Use props like music, photos, gifts, and other keepsakes to spark memories and ask your loved one what it makes them think of.
Write Letters to Loved Ones
Send it back to a time before computers and spend your visit writing handwritten letters to family and friends. All you need is paper and a pen! Help your loved one draft a letter, or each write your own. Ask the recipients to write back so you can read their responses together next time you visit.
Additional Suggestions – Did you know AgeCare has a Pen Pal program? Members of the community share uplifting words, stories, videos, and pictures with those who live and work in our communities to help brighten their spirits. Ask the recreation team to read recent letters that you can respond to. For more information, visit www.agecare.ca/PenPal
Watch Some Wildlife
Observe some wildlife live from around Canada from the comfort of your loved one’s room using your device.
Sea Lions at OrcaLab
Have you ever watched a pile of sleepy sea lions hanging out and snoring loudly in real-time? It’s quite an experience, and it’s available to you via OrcaLab, a whale research station on Hanson Island, B.C.

We are happy to share that our recreation calendar is back, and many of our regular recreational activities in the community have resumed. Residents can participate in a variety of engaging activities that enrich the mind, body and spirit, while maintaining appropriate physical distancing.
