Staying COVID-19 Free

While the broader community moves into phase 2 of the Alberta relaunch, our teams continue their diligent work to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all residents.

As Dr. Hinshaw, Chief Medical Officer of Health reminded all Albertans in a recent update “This virus is not gone. COVID-19 is still circulating in our communities and will do so for many months to come. With the increased opportunity for activities and gatherings, there is increased potential for all of us to be exposed to COVID-19.”

In the past couple of weeks, we have unfortunately seen additional COVID-19 outbreaks in other continuing care facilities in Calgary and Edmonton. Our focus at AgeCare remains the care and protection of residents who are at higher risk for severe outcomes from the disease. It is important that we continue to work together and stay vigilant in these efforts to remain COVID-19 free in our sites.

At AgeCare Midnapore we continue to operate under many of our outbreak protocols, ensure all staff are following the screening protocols, and monitoring the situation closely to ensure we are doing everything possible to prevent a potential spread.

We know that the past 3 months have been immensely challenging for residents and their families and appreciate all the support and kindness shown in our efforts. We know there has been much discussion in the province on the visitor restrictions and hope you all had the opportunity to attend the Town Hall hosted by Dr. Hinshaw and the Alberta Government.

To prevent any potential spread from the community at large into our buildings – our visitor restrictions remain only one visitor, who is attending to a resident who is dying, is allowed inside our AgeCare communities. We understand that these restrictions put in place have been difficult, but the decision was made to save lives.

We continue to encourage all our family members to take advantage of our outdoor in-person and virtual visits led by our recreation team. These visits will help you to stay connected with your loved one and give the residents a much-needed sense of comfort and reassurance during this difficult time.

To sign-up for one of these visits, please contact:

  • For long term care: Tori White, Recreation Manager, at twhite@agecare.ca or 403-873-2612.
  • For the Estates: Betty-Anne, Retirement Living Consultant, at bmilan@agecare.ca or 403-873-2828 between Monday- Friday, 8 am to 4 pm.

Thank you again for your continued support and for helping keep our community COVID-19 free.

Recreation Highlights

The need to stay active, intellectually stimulated, and socially connected never ends – even during these unprecedented times. Our recreation team is working hard to create engaging activities to enrich the mind, body and spirit, while ensuring residents can maintain appropriate physical distancing.

Weekly Shout-Out

We want to ‘Shout Out’ to our Unit Clerk Team: Nicole, Clyde and Gessa (not pictured).  Not only do they manage all nursing supplies, including those required for new residents, they also distribute PPE for staff daily.  The ordering of ample supplies has been a challenge, requiring them to get creative, submit more orders and access more vendors than usual. Our team is so grateful to have them looking out for the resident and the team throughout the pandemic.
