“An optimist is the human
personification of spring.”

~ Susan J. Bissonette

The need to stay active, intellectually stimulated and socially connected never ends – even during these unprecented times. Our recreation team is working hard to create engaging activities to enrich the mind, body and spirit, while ensuring residents can maintain appropriate physical distancing.

We recognize how difficult it may be for both our residents and families during this time of uncertainty. As the COVID-19 situation evolves rapidly and ongoing developments are recommended by  Alberta Health Services, we have made changes to our recreation programs. At AgeCare Midnapore, the safety and wellbeing of our residents is a priority. Our team is working hard to maintain recreation activities and programs by:

Small Group Programs: we will continue with very small group programming (max 4 residents at 2meters apart) to play physical games such as exercise, word games, and engage in social activities such as discussions, current events, etc. We are specifically choosing games that limit residents from    touching objects, supplies that cannot be sanitized, or supplies can be thrown out after single use.

Providing 1:1 Visits – Providing 1:1 visits for a game of crib, to play some music or simply to chat.

Virtually connecting residents with their families – Book a FaceTime for Mothers Day. Sunday May 10th 9:30-3:30 (one call per family)

  • We can help you talk to your loved ones via Facetime, skype, emails/letters or phone calls. We have assigned staff during the day to connect with families and residents. Families who wish to  connect with their resident using these methods can let us know and we will   arrange a time that works best for both parties.. Please note that due to the high volume of requests we are receiving, we are currently providing 1-2 calls per resident per week. If you wish to connect with your loved one by any of the above methods, please contact reception or recreation. Please call reception at 403-873-2600 to set up a time.

Outdoor Family Visits – we are waiting for direction on how to systematically introduce family visits. At this time (April 30) – we are not allowing family visits. When we do allow them, the process will be as follows:

  • Book with reception – it will be the same as a scheduling a virtual visit.
  • One visit per resident per week – we have 270 people that live at AgeCare Midnapore. We need to be fair for all.
  • You will have 15minutes to visit with your loved one. Recreation staff will be picking resident up from their neighbourhood and brought downstairs to the Oaks & Acorns Playground. Residents will stay on inside of playground. Families will be on the outside. Recreation staff will be with the resident for the duration of the visit and brought back inside.
  • Two members of the family are allowed to visit at a time. Two.
  • Families must bring a mask to wear. AgeCare will not provide a mask for families.
  • All visits are weather permitting. If the weather is not nice – we will do a skype or facetime instead.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding at this time. We want to  reassure you that our priority at Midnapore is the health and well-being of our residents. To connect with your loved one, or if you have questions or concerns, please do not  hesitate to contact myself or reception.
