LONG TERM CARE RESIDENT / FAMILY COUNCIL
The province has new legislation related to Resident/Family Councils. It gives residents and their families the right to establish self-governing councils at any long-term care and licensed supportive living facility that serves 4 or more people.
The legislation requires facility operators to make residents and their family aware of their right to establish a council. This includes responding to resident and family requests and concerns, as well as information on supporting an active resident and family council.
Councils provide an opportunity for residents and families to discuss matters with agency or operator staff including:
Once a council has been established, operators or their representatives must provide support to the councils and attend meetings upon request.
A meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 12 at 10:30 a.m. in the Recreation Room to establish a Council for Valleyview. We will also discuss the benefits and importance of a Resident/Family Council.
All residents and family members are welcome. We look forward to you being there.
The facility representatives for the Resident / Family Council are Kim Swanson, GM and Debbie Jesse, Recreation Therapist.
In the past, we had one Resident Council meeting for all Retirement Living and Long Term Care / Supportive Living residents. In the future, we will have separate meetings for Retirement Living and Long Term Care / Supportive Living.
