AgeCare Weekly Update for October 23, 2020: Tips for Driving & Public Transit

Dear Resident or Family Member,

We remain committed to providing updates to our residents, families, and staff at AgeCare. As such, we are providing weekly updates to keep you all informed on what is happening at our communities and organization-wide.

  1. Information and announcements – this week, we are sharing some information about Retirement Living at AgeCare Orchard Manor, as well as some tips to protect you while driving in a vehicle with others or taking public transit.
  2. Recreation calendars as the need to stay active, intellectually stimulated, and socially connected never ends.
  3. A weekly shout-out to celebrate the great work and activities happening at our AgeCare communities.

As we move into a different stage of the pandemic, our weekly updates will be sent from a central location rather than individually from each site. You will continue to receive them on Fridays.

We do hope that you find them helpful. Thank you all for your continued support.

Safety Tips for Driving & Public Transit

Here are some tips to help protect you from the spread of COVID-19 when driving in a vehicle with others or taking public transportation.

Outing Requirements

  • Maintain physical distance and wear a mask at all times.
  • Ensure safe transportation (private vehicle preferred)
  • Maintain good hand hygiene
  • Understand the risk of unknown exposure and safety precautions
  • Be screened on re-entry

When Driving in a Private Vehicle
If you are not the only passenger in the vehicle:

  1. Clean and disinfect commonly touched surfaces such as door handles, seatbelt buckles, and armrests before and after each trip.
  2. Limit the number of people in the vehicle where possible, to maintain 6-feet physical distancing.
  3. Ensure everyone is wearing a mask at all times.
  4. Ensure everyone washes or sanitizes hands before entering the vehicle.

When Using Public Transit (City Busses, LRT, Handi-bus, Cab/Taxi, Uber, etc.)

We strongly recommend that residents do not take public transit, as it is difficult to maintain physical distancing and to be certain that the area has been disinfected. Where possible, coordinate transportation by car. If you must use public transit:

  1. Wear a face mask at all times.
  2. Stay at least 6-feet away from other people where possible.
  3. Sanitize hands after contact with high touch surfaces such as buttons, railings, armrests, doors, seats and handles.
  4. Avoid touching your face at all times.
  5. Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your elbow.
  6. Sanitize hands immediately upon exiting.
  7. Refer to physical distancing tips for public transportation

Recreation Calendar

Our recreation calendars are back, and many of our regular recreational activities in the community have resumed. Residents can participate in a variety of engaging activities that enrich the mind, body and spirit, while maintaining appropriate physical distancing.

Weekly Shout-Out

This week’s shout-out is from AgeCare Valleyview

AgeCare Valleyview would like to take this opportunity to thank our Resident Helpers.

Although individual volunteers have been able to return to volunteering at our community, we have relied on the support of some of our amazing Resident Helpers to assist with activities. Their support allows our Recreation Team to spend more time helping residents, particularly those who require more assistance, in turn allowing more residents to join in on activities.

We appreciate them helping us and assisting us in safe manner. Thank you!
