Spring is just around the corner, and with the winter we have been experiencing this year, I am sure many of you can’t wait! This month we will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, welcoming three new performers, and having a visit from the Delta O.W.L Rehabilitation Society.
Last March families and residents enjoyed watching the Eire Born Irish Dancers. They are a group of young performers dressed in traditional highland dancer outfits that put on a 30 minute show. We have invited them back for March 15th and will follow up the performance with Irish music and green dessert and drinks. Two days later on the 17th, we will be holding a St. Patrick’s Day Tea Social on the 17th to eat sugary shamrocks and listen to Irish limericks.
Some new performers to hear this month will be at our first Pub Night, March 9th, with the Langley Ukulele Ensemble. They are a group of 25 young students and their teacher who will entertain us for the hour. The second will be at our March Birthday Party, March 22nd, with Barrie Randle. Barrie won 1st place in a retirement residences music competition back in 2013. He plays the guitar and sings. Lastly, Leo Araujo will perform at our 2nd Pub Night at the end of the month, March 30th. I had an opportunity to watch him play on the Estate side of Harmony Court and he brings a great smile and voice, accompanied by the keyboard.
We are excited to announce O.W.L visiting Harmony Court. O.W.L. is home to permanent residents that help foster orphaned or displaced birds of prey. They specializes in birds called raptors (eagles, falcons, hawks, owls, ospreys) as well as turkey vultures. They receive more than 400 birds into care each year. They will be introducing us to two of their orphaned birds and given us an educational presentation on them. We ask that if you are in the building during their time here to please be quiet and mindful of keeping a clear distance from the birds.
Due to some complications with the bus for our bowling trip last month, we will be trying again on March the 2nd in the afternoon. The Scenic Bus Trips will be a go on the 15th, 22nd, and 30th. Recreation always checks with the nurses to make sure the residents do not have any expected guests or appointments before putting them on the bus list, so it is a good idea to plan ahead if you are visiting on a Wednesday or Thursday. Just let the nurses know or call in on these days to find out if your loved one is on the bus.
Wishing you all the best,
