Seasons greetings,
The holiday season is upon us; cooler weather, cozy programs and plenty of hot coco to go around!
December is a special month for the recreation department! Programs and activities have been designed and tailored to fit in with the holiday season. Residents and family members can look forward to a spectacular tree lighting ceremony in the Atrium on the 4th to kick of all the festive programs, holiday parties scheduled on each neighborhood, a special Christmas Concert put on by the resident choir and gingerbread house making.
It wouldn’t be the Christmas season without the twinkle of Christmas lights! The recreation department has created a Candy Cane Lane Light Tour on the Sunridge Outdoor Patio. Each neighbourhood will have a chance to grab a cup of hot chocolate and take a stroll outside and see all the bright lights. Time slots are posted on each recreation calendar.
The AgeCare leadership team would like to remind residents and family members who are decorating their rooms for the holidays to practice safe decorating! Do not over crowd outlets with cords, do not place flammable material on lights and any other item that can potentially produce heat and clear cords from all walk ways.
Often with the holidays, we see an increase of the flu. Remember to practice proper hand hygiene and if you are feeling under the weather, stay home, rest up, and come in for a visit when you feel better.
Please, take a look at our online December newsletter and program calendars for upcoming programs and events. If you have any questions or concerns, please, contact (587)619-6317! Or stop by the recreation office. Our general office hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Saturday.
Looking back on the past few months, we have had a busy and successful year. Thank you, to everyone for their kind patience and support. Everyone in the recreation department cannot wait to see what the New Year brings!
From all of us at SkyPointe, I would like to wish everyone a safe, and happy Holidays!
Yours sincerely,
Marlee Dukart, Recreation Therapy Manager

The vision for AgeCare SkyPointe has always been to meet the needs of the community in which it serves. This could not have been possible without the dedicated support of residents, families, staff, volunteers and our partners at Alberta Health Services. With the addition of our Long-Term Care Mental Health Program opening just over a year ago, in November 2018, we were able to successfully fulfill a vital need in our city.
We are pleased to share that in the spring of 2020 we will be able to further meet the needs of the community by opening a Hospice Care program at AgeCare SkyPointe. This will be the first Hospice program offering in NE Calgary, allowing us to provide a peaceful and supportive environment for individuals nearing end-of-life.
We wanted to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of you for being a part of the SkyPointe family. We wish you all the best during the holiday season and much happiness in the New Year!
Amir Rajani, General Manager & Patricia Blas, Director of Care

What is Candy Cane Lane? It’s a Christmas light tour without leaving SkyPointe! Residents, family members and staff will be able to take a stroll around SkyPointe’s Candy Cane Lane and enjoy the bright lights of Christmas! The Recreation Department has set up a beautiful display of lights on the Sunridge outdoor patio. During the month of December, each neighbourhood will have a chance to tour Candy Cane Lane, have a warm cup of coco, and reminisce of winter days and holiday memories!
While age doesn’t have much to do with oral health, the conditions that come with old age do. Dental care for seniors needs to look a bit different than oral care for any other age.
Arthritis and drugs used for various illnesses can make it harder to brush and floss, and can lead to changes in the mouth that cause problems like gum disease, tooth loss, and root decay. We recommend following these guidelines for a healthy, beautiful smile all throughout your senior years. Read more.
