Harmony Court will be doing some renovations starting August 18th on the 2nd Floor Care Center. Look forward to new paint in the bedrooms and bathrooms and repairs done on the ceilings. Posters will be put up to notify family and residents and the projects should be completed within a few weeks.
As one of America’s leading educators on dementia, Teepa Snow`s philosophy is reflective of her education, work experience, available medical research, and first hand caregiving interactions. Working as a Registered Occupational Therapist for over 30 years her wealth of experience has led her to develop Positive Approach™ to Care techniques and training models that now are used by families and professionals working or living with dementia or other brain changes throughout the world
This 12 min clip with Teepa is practical and valuable. Teepa explains that by understanding the strengths of a “Gem” it can change the caregiver approach and result in a different response from the person with cognitive impairment. Nothing you haven’t heard before but a really good refresher. Enjoy.

We have made it to August already! It must be true when you hear that time goes by faster when you are having fun! The residents will continue to have fun as they see Pitt Lake, Iona Beach, Granville Island, and have lunch at Cockney Kings Fish n’ Chips.
For the month of August, Harmony Court will be throwing parties to celebrate good friends, food and family. There is a BC Day party on August 4th with Poncho & Sal, a New Resident Welcome Tea with Alison Berry August 7th, Pub nights with entertainment August 13th and 27th, and a Birthday Party with Peter Montgomery August 19th. Just to remind the families you are always welcome to participate in all programs and especially special events with your loved ones!
The theme week for the month of August will be Under the Sea! This theme will bring the beach to everyone at Harmony Court. There will be puffer fish to paint, starfish to make and even a delicious sea food burger to look forward to!
There have been some major changes for July and there will be in August as well. Harmony Court is losing two members of the Administration Team. In July we lost a wonderful energetic Unit Clerk Miss Pippa Ogis. She has moved to Ontario where her Fiancé will be attending University. All the best goes to her and her new home! As for August, Celeste Bouffard, the Recreation Manager will be trading in the role for a casual position as she takes on Douglas College for the completion of her Therapeutic Recreation Degree in September. She is passing on the position to Miss Jessica Lemire who has 6 years’ experience as a Recreation Manager. Please give Jessica a warm welcome to Harmony Court!
Wishing you all the best
