Recreation Newsletter and Program Calendars

September 2020

Hello residents and family members,

As we wrap up the summer months, you can feel the air change as the beginning of a new season is upon us. The morning air is crisper, the leaves and fields are changing to a fall hue, and families are getting back into school routines.

Despite the a challenging start to 2020, SkyPointe had a wonderful summer. We continued Calgary Stampede traditions, and had a fun filled week with events such as a stampede parade and midway in the atrium. Pegasus Theater reopened with new and nostalgic movies playing each week for the residents to enjoy and despite some rainy days, we were able to get outside as much as possible using the courtyard and sun rooms on each neighborhood. The recreation team is looking forward to taking an afternoon on September 22, 2020 to review the past several months; what worked and what can be improved for the remainder of the year.

SkyPointe will not be having a Fall Harvest Market this year due to COVID – 19. That will not stop us from putting on a fun fundraiser for our families and staff members to enjoy. The recreation department will be partnering with Mom’s Pantry this month to sell some great products. Proceeds will go towards purchasing a portable convection oven to make baking programs more accessible on each neighbourhood and supporting the Alzheimer Walk & Run staff and residents will be participating in on Thanksgiving Sunday. Stay tuned for more details.

Our resident will be able to enjoy some outdoor music entertainment this month. The musical entertainers will be performing outside for residents in the south entrance roundabout. There will be a maximum of 12 residents allowed in the roundabout. Residents can enjoy from the sun rooms on each floor or their room windows if facing the roundabout.

Please, take a look at our September newsletter (below) and program calendars for upcoming programs and activities.  If you have any questions or concerns, please, contact (587)619-6317! Or stop by the recreation office. Our general office hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Saturday.

Yours sincerely,

Marlee Dukart

Flu Season is just around the Corner!

Help prevent the spread of influenza:

  • Wash your hands with warm water and soap or use an alcohol-based hand rub (hand sanitizer) often
  • Cover your cough or sneeze into your arm or a tissue, not your hand
  • Stay home when you are sick
  • Get immunized; immunization clinics for SkyPointe residents and staff will be held on October 15, 2020.

Watch for information on your neighborhood or weekly updates.
