Dear Residents and Family Members,
Fall is finally here! The SkyPointe Recreation Department is very excited to be moving into a new season and we are gearing up for all the fun holidays soon approaching. With our recreation program calendars expanding and becoming more tailored to our residents’ preferences, we would like to inform our residents and family members of a few different features on our calendars.
Throughout the month, our department hosts several different special events and programs. These require our residents to sign-up prior to the program happening. When residents sign-up, it ensures the department will have enough resources for the program and residents are truly getting a meaningful experience from the event being held.
Some sign-up programs that are featured on the calendar are at cost to the resident (special food programs, special art programs, community exercise programs, etc.). If there is a cost associated to the program, you will see a dollar sign ($) next to the program on the calendar. No at-cost program is more than $12.00 (If the cost associated to the program is more than $12, recreation staff will inform residents and family members prior to the program). At cost programs will be charged through a resident’s trust account. This ensures that the appropriate staff are accessing resident funds, details of which can be reviewed in the monthly statement. As well as, puts our residents at ease knowing they do not have to worry about having money at the time of the program. At cost programs requires all residents who have signed-up for the program to have that trust account set-up. If you would like to set-up a trust account please see our reception team.
October’s program calendars are full of fun, new, and exciting programs! There will be different musical entertainers throughout the month; Victor Navos, Dwayne Fettig and Leadfoot Express and three different in-house meals; a Thanksgiving Pancake Breakfast, KFC Men’s Lunch, and a Flavors of the World: Mediterranean Lunch. On October 26th, there will be a tailgate party with musical entertainment for the Calgary Stampeder’s game being played that evening which will be shown in the Pegasus Theatre. SkyPointe’s Corn Hole League will be played every Friday in the morning in the Atrium. Each week two neighborhoods will compete against each other, while they are cheered on by other residents from other neighborhoods.
SkyPointe is very pleased to announce that in partnership with Alberta Health Services (AHS) a new Long Term Care (LTC) Mental Health specialty program is being established at AgeCare SkyPointe. Located on the fourth floor of our community, this program will deliver LTC services with a mental health focus to residents aged 18 and older. There is currently a high need in Calgary for this specialty programming and we are proud to be able to respond by providing these residents with safe, compassionate person-centered care in a warm, welcoming homelike environment.
Lastly, I would like to invite all residents and family members to actively participate in SkyPointe’s Resident and Family Council. There will be another general information session and meeting on October 19, 2018 @ 3:00 p.m.
Please take a look at the October newsletter below and October program calendars. If you have any questions or concerns, please, contact me! Or stop by the recreation office. Our general office hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Saturday.
