Recreation Newsletter & Program Calendars

September 2019

Hello Residents and Family Members,

There is something about the first day of September; the air is crisper as we move toward the fall months and there is a small buzz around the city as kids go back to school and everyone gets back to routine.

SkyPointe had an amazing summer! We celebrated our one-year anniversary, kicked up some dust during stampede, our tuck shop opened and ended our summer with a carnival with our residents and staff. Time sure does fly when you are having fun!

During the month of September, you will see recreation programs transitioning from summer to fall, and regular scheduled programs beginning once again. Residents can sign up for two different in-house lunches ($); Fish and Chips or a Vegetarian Mediterranean lunch. There are several days with entertainment, Philip Marleau, Roli Mack Music and the Kids4Christ Choir.

Resident Family Council meetings will start up again this month. Stay tuned for dates and times.

Please, take a look at our September newsletter (below) and program calendars for upcoming programs and events.  If you have any questions or concerns, please, contact (587)619-6317! Or stop by the recreation office. Our general office hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Saturday.

Yours sincerely,

Marlee Dukart, Recreation Therapy Manager

SkyPointe Safety Awareness

Each month, there will be a different code posted. This reviews the different safety standards and techniques used at SkyPointe.

Code of the Month:Code Green

  • The phrase used to alert staff and physicians of an incident which is leading a partial or full evacuation of the facility depending on the severity of the incident. Events which may lead to a Code Green include, but are not limited to: fire, flood, structural damage/collapse, bomb threat, acts of violence, toxic releases from an internal or an external source, or prolonged utility / power failure.

For more information, ask your neighbourhood nurse or one of SkyPointe’s onsite educators.

Community Outings

SkyPointe Staff are preparing to start our Community Bus Outings for AgeCare SkyPointe Residents.  As per AgeCare Policies, interested residents/family members will have to ensure the following:

  1. Please be advised that we would require residents interested in going for outings to have a trust account with us so the cost of outings can be charged accordingly. The cost for outings would be $12.50 plus GST within the City limits and $20.00 plus GST outside the City limits. Residents would be responsible for any activity cost.
  2. Residents will be required to sign up for each outing with Recreation Department by the deadline mentioned on the recreation calendars and sign up sheet.
  3. At this time, we would not allow any power chairs or scooters on the bus due to capacity and weight restrictions.
  4. AgeCare SkyPointe have the right to remove a resident(s) from community outings due to extenuating circumstances.
  5. All residents must have a signed and completed Consent for Transportation to Seniors Activities before attending any recreational community outings.

Our hope is our residents will benefit from this amazing opportunity. Residents and family members will be notified with community outings commence.   Consent forms can be submitted to our recreation therapists:

Gloria Michael (Sunridge, Rundle, Martindale) (587) 619-6318 or

Keely Vanderwal (Pineridge, Whitehorn, Taradale) (587) 619-6318 or
