AgeCare is partnering with Calgary’s Mount Royal University (MRU) to establish the AgeCare Research Chair in Aging. AgeCare’s $600,000 donation to MRU’s School of Nursing and Midwifery will fund cutting edge research that will improve the quality of life for seniors across Canada.
This research partnership with MRU is an important element of AgeCare’s innovation strategy. The new Chair will undertake research to understand the multifaceted aspects of aging and develop innovative solutions with technology to enhance the quality of life for older adults, as well as advocate, educate and collaborate on issues involving aging and seniors care.
AgeCare’s vision is to transform and lead quality, services and innovation in the publicly funded long-term care sector in Canada, and this partnership will help us bring this vision to life. Our investment in research at MRU will benefit those we serve and drive positive change across the senior care landscape.
“AgeCare is honored to partner with Mount Royal University to establish the AgeCare Research Chair in Aging. This donation represents our commitment to continuous learning, innovative thinking, and the advancement of care and services for our aging population. The work resulting from this partnership will not only benefit those we serve within AgeCare communities but support the entire sector across Canada,” says Salimah Walji-Shivji, Chief Executive Officer, AgeCare.
This new role will complement the work of MRU’s existing Chair in Older Adult Health and play a key role in leading and expanding the university’s Centre for Health and Innovation in Aging, a hub for aging adults, faculty, students, researchers, industry partners and care providers to promote health, independence and quality of life. The Centre focuses on four key areas: innovations in age technology, interdisciplinary research for healthy aging, collaboration and knowledge sharing, and creating a social impact.
“The Research Chair will allow us to deepen our understanding, challenge our growth and enhancement in the care and quality services we provide, and will in turn benefit our residents, their families, and the broader community to elevate care, services and interaction,” says Walji-Shivji. “Together with MRU, we aim to create a profound impact, contributing knowledge and insights that will guide the future of aging care in Canada.”
